Flames end nine-game skid with rout of Oilers

01/31/2010 -
Calgary, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dustin Boyd and Jarome Iginla each scored a
pair of goals, as Calgary earned a much-needed 6-1 win over Edmonton in a
battle of struggling Northwest division foes at the Saddledome.
The Flames were mired in a frustrating 0-6-3 slump coming into the game, their
longest skid since an 11-game slide from December 14, 1985-January 7, 1986.
Miikka Kiprusoff recorded 27 saves, while Rene Bourque and Dion Phaneuf each
had a goal for Calgary, who has swept its downtrodden in-province rival (6-0)
for the first time ever.
The Oilers, 0-11-2 since a win over Toronto on December 30, are now one loss
shy of matching the franchise's longest winless streak of 14 contests set
between October 11-November 7, 1993.
Sam Gagner scored the lone goal for Edmonton, which received a 24-save effort
from Devan Dubnyk in another crushing defeat.
Boyd's backhander in front opened the scoring just 3:45 into the contest, and
Gagner tied the game on the power play at the 12:25 mark.
Calgary retook the lead just 55 seconds later on Bourque's tally, and the
Flames essentially sealed the win with three second-period goals.
Boyd took advantage of an ugly Edmonton turnover deep in its own zone, netting
his eight goal of the year 6:48 into the middle stanza. Phaneuf's one-timer
made it 4-1 less than a minute later, and Iginla capped the scoring on a
power-play goal with 4:47 remaining in the second and a rebound stuff midway
through the third.
Kiprusoff flashed the glove on a streaking Andrew Cogliano five minutes into
the third, one of his nine saves in the final stanza to polish off the win.

Stanley Cup betting
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
