Blackhawks aim to secure West's top seed versus Red Wings
Hockey Betting Lines
04/11/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A win today would give the Blackhawks the top seed in the
Western Conference, but the Red Wings could have something to say about that.
Detroit will try to play spoiler this afternoon and better its own playoff
positioning when it visits Chicago and the United Center.
After making a run to the Western Conference finals a season ago, where they
were ousted by the Red Wings in five games, the Blackhawks are currently
second in the West with 111 points, two back of the Sharks. However, Chicago
has one more victory than San Jose, which wrapped its regular season on
Saturday with a win over Phoenix, meaning a victory in this game would give
the Blackhawks the No. 1 seed and a first-round matchup with Colorado.
Chicago, which can not finish lower than the second spot, does come into this
contest on a roll, having won six straight after Friday's 5-2 victory over the
Avalanche.
Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist, Colin Fraser scored twice and both
Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who are
29-8-3 at home this season. Antti Niemi made 30 saves in the victory.
Toews and company know that just because the Blackhawks are a higher seed,
anything can happen in the playoffs.
"There are not going to be any easy teams," said Toews. "Just look back last
year when [top-seeded] San Jose got knocked off. We had a tough streak a few
weeks ago and now I think we've got some things worked out."
Few teams want to meet the Red Wings in the playoffs, even if they aren't at
their normal higher seed. Detroit, which had its run of eight straight Central
Division titles ended this year by Chicago, shook off some early-season
injuries to extend its playoff run to 19 straight seasons, a record among U.S.
professional sports.
The Red Wings also extended their record run of 100-point seasons to 10 after
Friday's 1-0 shootout victory at Columbus. Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi
both notched shootout goals and Jimmy Howard made 22 saves for the third
shutout of his career.
"We had a real good third period [and] had a lot of opportunities and didn't
score, but in the end we got what we needed. I thought the team played well
and everyone's doing good," said Red Wings coach Mike Babcock.
Detroit, which improved to 12-1-2 in its last 15 games, is currently fifth in
the West, tied with idle Nashville with 100 points. The Red Wings would clinch
the fifth spot with a win in this contest or if they can earn a point and
sixth-place Los Angeles, which has 99 points, losses today to Colorado.
The Red Wings would finish sixth in the standings with an overtime loss and
Kings win, or if both they and Los Angeles lose in regulation. Finally,
Detroit would slip to seventh with a regulation loss and a Kings victory.
The Red Wings are 18-14-8 on the road this season, but have won six of their
last eight as the guest.
Chicago has won three of five over Detroit this year, as well as five of the
last seven in the series overall in the regular season. However, the Red Wings
posted a 5-4 win when the clubs last met at the United Center on March 7 to
snap a two-game skid in the Windy City.

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
